Radiant, Fair, & Glowing Skin
(The Real Shades of Life…)
a) L Glutathione: Glutathione is involved in many processes in the body, including tissue building and repair, making chemicals and
proteins needed in the body, and for the immune system. Oxidative stress occurs when there’s an imbalance between the production of free
radicals and the body’s ability to fight them off. Too-high levels of oxidative stress may be a precursor to multiple diseases. These include
diabetes, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis. Glutathione helps stave off the impact of oxidative stress, which may, in turn, reduce disease.
A study found that dietary supplementation with cysteine and glycine boosted glutathione levels. It also lowered oxidative stress and damage
in people with uncontrolled diabetes, despite high sugar levels. Study participants were placed on 0.81 millimoles per kilogram (mmol/kg) of
cysteine and 1.33 mmol/kg glycine daily for two weeks.
b) Vitamin C: Vitamin C boosts your skin's collagen production to give you firmer, more plump skin and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
The antioxidant properties of vitamin C help fight free radicals and damage caused by UV radiation. The result is anti-aging action for younger-
looking skin! It is a vital part of any conversation about bright skin, and without a few (or many) drops of it, flawless skin might just be a
distant dream. Vitamin C is that wonder vitamin that not only fights cold and flu from the inside, but also defends skin against dark spots, signs
of ageing and sun damage when applied topically. It also boosts glow and evens out your complexion. Vitamin C application has been known to improve
fine lines and reduces both pigmentation and inflammation. The vitamin also empowers skin with potent antioxidant activity, which helps neutralise
the oxidative stress developed due to various environmental stressors and pollution.
c) Alpha Lipoic Acid: ALA is found naturally in the mitochondria portion of our cells, as part of an enzyme system that helps energy production.
It’s both fat- and water-soluble, meaning that it’s easily absorbed through the lipid layers of your skin and works well as a free-radical fighter in
the cell plasma membrane. Further, ALA is 400 times stronger than Vitamins E and C combined (both of which are renowned for their antioxidant properties).
ALA first concentrates in the cell plasma membrane, where it neutralizes free radicals. It then moves on to the watery interior of the cell known as the
cytosol where it can also quell the activity of free radicals and prevent activation of other pro-inflammatory chemicals. Need to address visible fine
lines and wrinkles? ALA is excellent at this given its capacity to regulate production of nitric oxide, which controls blood flow to the skin. This is
the secret to eliminating the appearance of dark circles and the reason ALA can help transform the complexion from dull, pasty, and pale to vibrant
and glowing.
